Case Study:

MSDs Prevention Videos

Client: NIOSH-CDC

Three PSA videos created to bring awareness of MSDs (Musculoskeletal Disorders) among Hispanics working in the food service industry.

The Need

Approximately one third of all work-related injuries and illnesses in the United States are due to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Workers who experience MSDs often take more days to return to work than those with other types of injuries and illnesses.

Hispanic restaurant owners are a population in need of information about MSD prevention. This is because the food services industry is the second largest category for Hispanic-owned businesses with paid employees, and this sector is growing rapidly in the United States.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), under the direction of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) wanted to produce several videos on MSD prevention for Hispanic business owners in the food service industry.

The Solution

NIOSH and the CDC awarded a prime contract to Identika to produce, film, and edit two PSA commercials and a 30-second teaser about the prevention of MSDs in Hispanic-owned restaurants.

Identika carried out a full video production process to develop an engaging, original video series for the Client. Our solution comprised of the following activities:

  • Conducted research on MSDs and client requirements.
  • Developed seven engaging original storylines for the Client to choose from.
  • Developed detailed scripts and storyboards for the chosen storylines.
  • Conducted focus groups with representative audiences to assess their response to the script and storyboards.
  • Performed pre-production activities, including location scouting, talent auditions, and photo shoot planning.
  • Developed branding assets to comply with CDC branding guidelines.
  • Conducted principal photography on location for the videos.
  • Post-production activities, including multiple edited versions of the videos, color grading, sound design, and motion graphics.
  • Edited a 30-second teaser video that included footage from both videos and clear calls to action.
  • Delivered the final videos in multiple formats for digital and social media consumption.
Excellent technical approach; already have relationships with Hispanic restaurant owners/celebrities in the area and project officers are fluent in Spanish!
